The “Free Speech Resists Fun” Complex: Boston Free Speech, Resist Marxism, and Super Happy Fun America

Preamble

The BFS/RM/SHFA Complex is a set of alt-lite and alt-right groups, characterized largely by the same core group of organizers from a variety of fascist and far-right backgrounds, that have rebranded themselves repeatedly in the face of bad press over their attempts to import fascist street violence (of the kind seen in Berkeley CA and Portland OR starting in 2017) into Boston MA and New England at large. The Complex itself was part of a resurgence of the reactionary right in the United States, as triggered by the election of since-convicted felon & since-adjudicated rapist Donald Trump to the U.S. Presidency in 2016. Boston Free Speech (“BFS”), alternatively calling itself the Boston Free Speech Coalition and the New Free Speech Movement (a paltry right-wing echo of the anti-Vietnam-War and decidedly leftist Free Speech Movement), was equal parts civic nationalist group and Boston-local front for online neo-fascist group Anti-Communist Action. It was founded in the wake of the “Battles for Berkeley,” with the implied goal of fomenting similar violence in Boston. It’s most well-known for the disastrous Boston Free Speech Rally of August ‘17.

Resist Marxism (“RM”) was a multi-tendency fascist coalition group meant to emulate Patriot Prayer and its incitement of violence in the Portland OR area, founded by Kyle Chapman and Joey Gibson after the aforementioned Boston Free Speech Rally in August ’17. While RM allegedly built out into a separate Texas chapter, it mostly only organized within Boston MA and the surrounding states. The remaining membership of Boston Free Speech would be subsumed into Resist Marxism as the “Blue Bloc” street crew, before eventually spinning off as the Michael-Moura-led tradcath group “Revolt Through Tradition.”

Super Happy Fun America (“SHFA”) is an anti-trans, anti-gay, anti-feminist, anti-leftist performative outrage group that, in the face of its previous iterations’ failures to create consistent street violence against local leftists, appears to have shifted tactics to wasting the money of cities it throws its events in as well as engineering conditions where local police will abuse antifascist activists in their stead. SHFA’s various websites make clear that its current batch of organizers buy into the antisemitic “cultural Marxism” conspiracy theory. It’s most well-known for the Boston Straight Pride Parade, and for at least four of its lead organizers attending the failed January 6th putsch in Washington DC and two of them subsequently receiving federal charges for it.

Timeline of Activities

This timeline will cite BFS/RM/SHFA’s own websites and social media for the purpose of cataloguing attendees, and will frame any included claims or allegations made on said websites as exactly that.

2017

On February 1st, over 1500 protesters gathered at UC Berkeley’s Sproul Hall to rally against a speaking engagement by Milo Yiannopolous, hosted by the Berkeley College Republicans, in an event that would later be called the “Battle For Berkeley.” Reportedly, 150 protesters in black bloc began to menace police and set fires. The Yiannopolous event was canceled within 20 minutes of violence breaking out; violence continued well into the night. [1]

On March 4th, while participating at the March 4 Trump rally in Berkeley CA, which would later be called the “Battle For Berkeley II,” Kyle Chapman assaulted an antifascist counter-protestor with a weapon. [1] This single act of violence propelled Chapman as a known figure in alt-right spaces, for which he was given the ridiculous moniker “Based Stickman.” [2] More than $86k was raised for his defense from the multiple assault charges pressed against him for his actions at the rally. Chapman would reach a plea deal two years later. [3] Sometime after the rally, Gavin McInnes would install Chapman as the leader of the Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights; Chapman would later use this position to attempt to take control of the Proud Boys from Enrique Tarrio, and reveal himself as a proponent of the “white genocide” conspiracy theory. [4]

On April 15th, a “free speech” rally held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park, and organized by the same parties as the March 4th event, became the site of a brawl between a reactionary right coalition (including Patriot Prayer, the Oath Keepers, the militantly racist street-fighting group Rise Above Movement, and neo-Nazi group Identity Evropa) and counter-protesters (including antifascists). Members of RAM jumped police barricades and assaulted counter-protesters in swarming, coordinated fashion. At one point, RAM founder Rob Rundo assaulted a police officer; he was arrested. At another point, IE founder Nathan Damigo struck a female counter-protester in the face, and fled. After the rally ended, members of RAM celebrated their violence in various online spaces; records of these interactions would be used as evidence in federal charges filed against RAM the next year. Rundo’s model for RAM would later serve as a basis for other reactionary right groups, such as the neo-fascist Patriot Front and neo-Nazi Nationalist Social Club of New England (itself a product of the BFS/RM/SHFA Complex). While RAM would collapse after Rundo fleeing to Eastern Europe in 2019, Rundo’s establishment of the “Active Club” model of decentralized white power fight clubs during 2021 continues to play a role in enabling political street violence across several regions of the United States. [1]

On May 13th, BFS held their first Boston Free Speech Rally at the Parkman Bandstand. In the lead-up to the rally, organizers disseminated info about the event on 4chan, Craigslist, Reddit, Facebook, and select Discord servers. The public Facebook event page was posted by Silva, and among those who expressed interest was Strout. [1] Verrette posted to the AntiCom Discord server, imploring members to attend. [2] On the day of the event, the rally was met with a counter-protest organized by antifascist coalition Stand Against Hate Boston and RevCom cult front Refuse Fascism. The Oath Keepers, American Patriot III%ers, and Proud Boys were present, with the former acting in a security capacity for the BFS event. [3] Medlar, Cipolla, Barbosa, Hare, Welsh, and Masterson were videoed as present, in recordings of the Proud Boys staging at least two “beat-in” initiations behind the bandstand. [4] [5] Coon and Welsh were photographed as present and mingling with Chapman. Costs, Lizardo, and Baldassari were photographed as present. [6] [7] [8] [9] Verrette, Rasmussen, Cipolla, Lindskog, and US Army veteran Charles Robinson III were speakers. [10] [11] [12] [13] According to BFS, Chapman, Stewart Rhodes of the Oath Keepers, and Augustus Invictus of American Guard FL were also speakers. [14] Invictus was invited personally by Chapman. [15] Sometime after speaking, Cippola was arrested for assaulting a counter-protester. [16] [17] The rally proceeded to march the Freedom Trial, looping back to the Massachusetts State House. Brown was present and recorded several videos on site. [18] [19] Known anti-left political fabulist Tim Pool, who was warmly recognized by several rally attendees, livestreamed the event, at points interviewing a random Oath Keeper he mistook for Rhodes, seeming to catch Moura on video, and asking Costs about his Kekistan flag. [20] Pool would later be accused of using his replacement of a high-school-senior-aged attendee’s broken phone as an opportunity to initiate a sexual relationship with someone 13 years his junior. [21] Youtuber and alleged comedian Taylor Beacom interviewed Pool. [22] Rightwing musician Don Dunst a/k/a “Duerst the Wuerst” later uploaded video of a handful of speeches from the march, where he inadvertently recorded future Patriot Front members Mark Hayden, with at-the-time bandmate Maverick D’Amato, and Michael Barbosa. [23] Jacob Siegal of The Daily Beast released an article about the event featuring quotes from Verrette, Crowley, and Rasmussen the next day, wherein Rasmussen took credit for framing the rally as under threat from antifascists in posts on Reddit, 4chan, and elsewhere. [24] Well afterward, Navom admitted he was present, as well as a speaker for the event. [25] [26] Bartley also claimed Sam Hyde was present. [27]

Also on May 13th, Patriot Prayer counter-protested an anti-police brutality event held at Chapman Square in Portland OR. Gibson and Toese were active participants. During the counter-protest, Proud Boy Rob “Based Hobo” Cantrall attempted to provoke violence against and assault protesters; Patriot Prayer member David Fry was so disturbed by Cantrall’s threats toward the anti-brutality protesters that he acted to de-escalate Cantrall. Toese also engaged in violence, at one point knocking down a protester with a punch to the face. [1] [2] [3] An early example of a Patriot Prayer rally, Gibson would organize dozens more increasingly violent rallies in the Pacific Northwest until his corporate dissolution of Patriot Prayer in 2019. Gibson consistently claimed to be motivated by a number of distinctly right-wing causes, such as “free speech” and anti-feminism; a number of journalists speculated that Patriot Prayer’s underlying goal was to 1) antagonize left-wing activists, particularly antifascists, and provoke physical confrontations, and 2) generate sympathetic attention from right-wing viewers across the county. Gibson specifically and intentionally organized a large number of rallies in Portland OR, with the stated intention of goading antifascists in the streets. [4] [5] Resist Marxism would later utilize Gibson’s model of disrupting leftist events and antagonizing leftist protestors to varying effect.

On May 26th, known Patriot Prayer participant Jeremy Joseph Christian stabbed three people, killing Ricky John Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche and injuring Micah David-Cole Fletcher, while aboard a MAX Light Rail train in Portland OR. Christian, a white supremacist, had been verbally abusing two teenagers, one a Muslim woman and another a black woman. Namkai-Meche and Fletcher intervened, placing themselves physically between Christian and the women. After a minor physical altercation, Christian stabbed Best (who was nearby but otherwise uninvolved), Namkai-Meche, and Fletcher. Christian fled at Hollywood Northeast 42nd Ave; he was later apprehended, charged, tried, and sentenced to two life terms. Patriot Prayer later disavowed Christian, though in a later interview Gibson curiously claimed that Christian “was not a racist.” [1] [2] [Speculative: This event is included as an example of a possible end-stage result for Resist Marxism’s intended goals of incitement, had things gone very differently in Boston MA.]

On June 10th, BFS took part in ACT! For America’s March Against Sharia Law in Boston MA. In the lead-up to the event, Proud Boys Barbosa, Trafecante, Coon, Welsh, Masterson, Chagnon, Lizardo, Norman (as “Mij Namron”), and Bacigalupo, III%er Michael Albert, and miscellaneous patriot movement bodies Steve Baldassari and Conor John expressed interest in attending via the public Facebook event page. [1]

Starting on August 11th and concluding on the 12th, the Unite the Right rally was held in Charlottesville VA. [1] Its stated goal was the unification of the white nationalist movement in the United States. Violence inflicted on counter-protesters by various white nationalist figures, including members of the Rise Above Movement, was a common sight throughout the event. [2] On the 12th, James Alex Fields drove his car into a crowd of counter-protestors, injuring 35 and killing Heather Heyer. [3] This event is notable here, as it primed the overwhelming response against BFS’s upcoming free speech rally later that month. It’s also notable for some of its attendees having traveled from New England to participate, including Proud Boy Michael Barbosa (at the time wearing the uniform of Identity Evropa), future Patriot Front members Ryan Roy and Nick Cerce, and disgraced Woburn MA PD officer John Connelly (at the time an active service patrolman, and serving as a member of neo-Nazi organizer Richard Spencer’s security detail). [4]

On August 19th, BFS held their second Boston Free Speech Rally at the Parkman Bandstand. In the lead up to the event, Sender improperly submitted the permit application for the protest with the city’s special events portal, before Medlar resubmitted the permit correctly with the Parks & Recreation Department. [1] [2] [3] Medlar would subsequently act as spokesperson for Boston Free Speech as well as an organizer, to his own admission. The 5-hour, 100-person-event permit was issued with several restrictions from the city. [4] Verrette was interviewed by NBC Boston, and alternated between begging for money and begging for people to commit to attending on the AntiCom Discord server. [5] [6] [7] The initial speakers list included Dan Hill, Lindskog, Kirkland, Daniel Alejandro Medina, Donnie Palmer, Del Gallo, Chapman, Racioppi, Augustus Invictus, Gavin McInnes, Joe Biggs, Shiva Ayyadurai, Cassandra Fairbanks, and a guest speaker billed as a “living meme” who may or may not have been Milo Yiannopolous. [8] [9] After the events at the Unite the Right rally on the 12th, a number of changes occurred to the speaker line-up. Invictus was asked not to appear by organizers given his participation in Unite the Right. McInnes and Fairbanks withdrew as speakers following the revocation of Invictus’s invitation to speak. The Three Percenters removed themselves from their organizing capacity as event security after receiving a stand-down order from their National Council on the 12th. [10] [11] This rally went disastrously, with 50 participants on and around the Bandstand and 40,000 counter-protestors organized by Stand Against Hate Boston and Black-Lives-Matter-adjacent group Fight Supremacy, held back by 500 police officers and police barricades. The rally ended early, with several speakers not getting to speak, and BPD escorted the rally attendees to safety in the back of a truck. [12] Chris Hood was present, and interviewed by three separate news outlets. [13] [14] [15] Carey was arrested for drawing his firearm on a counter-protester. His charges were later dismissed for lack of prosecution. [16] [♣] While attempting to reach the bandstand through the crowd of counter-protesters, Nathan Mizrahi and an unnamed militiaman were stopped by BPD Officer Danilecki over their obvious body armor. This led to a series of events starting with Mizrahi’s arrest for carrying a firearm and ammo without a license to carry in MA; he alleged he brought it to protect slated speaker Tammy Lee Smisek. It ended with Mizrahi being found guilty on all charges levied against him, and being sentenced to 18 months in Suffolk County Criminal Court. [17] Purportedly, this event compelled members of Boston Free Speech to rebrand as “the Blue Bloc,” similar to how several other groups with ties to the Unite the Right Rally chose to rebrand. Chapman founded Resist Marxism sometime shortly thereafter; Moura and Sahady became its lead organizers. [18] The antifascist response to this rally was so overwhelming that ACT! For America purportedly canceled dozens of events in the aftermath. [19] Well afterward, Navom would claim he was set as a speaker at the event, but was prevented from reaching the bandstand by BPD. Sahady would also claim he was an attendee. [20] [21] [22] Years later, Navom, Racioppi, and Shiva Ayyadurai would all fail in defamation suits against Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, attempting to extract damages over remarks Walsh made about this rally and Boston Free Speech being hate-group-adjacent. [23] [24] [25]

On August 29th, Medlar appeared before a Young Americans for Liberty panel at Becker College, speaking on his experiences organizing for BFS. The panel afterward included YAL members Dan Jackson and Joe Garcia. [1] [2]

On September 4th, Chapman registered the “resistmarxism.org” URL. He did not have the foresight to register it anonymously, and the who.is information at the time disclosed his home address. [1]

On September 30th, a number of people of varying proximity to BFS & RM spoke at a “Rally to Denounce Political Violence” outside of the Maine State Capitol in Augusta ME; this includes Racioppi, Rasmussen, and Kirkland. Navom was present, but did not speak. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Sometime during September 12th to 13th, Navom spoke at a Greater Boston Tea Party event, specifically on his experiences organizing the August 19th rally. During it, he seemed to admit that he was present at the May rally, and claimed to speak at the August rally. He also appeared to claim that he brought on Rod Webber as a documentarian as an insurance policy against biased allegations; Webber was then added to the speakers list in error, and taken to task over social media as a result. [1]

On September 16th, members of BFS disrupted a protest against reforms of DACA made by the US government. Verrette was present. According to BFS, one of their members was assaulted. [∗] [1]

On October 23rd, Navom, represented by Del Gallo, filed a defamation suit against Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, for his remarks on the hate-group-adjacent politics of the Boston Free Speech organizers. Obviously a nuisance lawsuit, Navom sought $100mil in damages. The case would be transferred to another Superior Court during March 2018, and dismissed during October 2018. [♣]

On November 10th, Reihner and Kirkland attempted to disrupt a press conference held by Fight Supremacy on the topic of counter-protesting Resist Marxism’s upcoming Rally for the Republic. [1]

On November 18th, Resist Marxism held their first event in the form of the Rally for the Republic, in front of the Massachusetts State House. During the lead-up to the event, several members held a press conference to address the city’s resistance to granting them a permit for the rally and presciently accurate claims made by Mayor Walsh about the politics of attendees; Sahady and Medlar spoke, and Racioppi, Bartley, and Reihner were present. [1] During the event, Del Gallo, Racioppi, Maider, Lee, Sahady, Baldassari, Haken, Toese, Chapman, Gibson, and Brown spoke, and Carey, Bartley, Hood, Val, Medlar, Moura, Costs, Navom, and Reihner were present. [2] [3] [4] The Oath Keepers were also present, with McKay purportedly acting as security lead. [5] After Chapman spoke, Racioppi noted that Libertarian Party figure Vermin Supreme was among the protesters, and invited him onstage; Supreme declined. Heather Mullins of News2Share livestreamed the event, and interviewed Chapman afterward. [6] [7] Performance artist and documentarian-activist Rod Webber later released a 2-1/4-hour video of his perspective of the event as press on Youtube, which included LP-MA State Committee elected Justin O’Donnell, Brown, Racioppi, Maider, Navom, Coombes, Smisek, Val, Sahady, Baldassari, Ayyadurai, rightwing musician Don Dunst a/k/a “Duerst the Wuerst,” Marsden, Gibson, and Toese. Sahady stated in the comments (as well as in his comments at the event itself) he was heavily involved in organizing the event. [8] [9]

On December 1st, Bartley and an unknown woman, accompanied by Patriot Front members Chris Hood and Jarek Reihner, disrupted a reading of Mark Bray’s “Antifascist Handbook” hosted at the Harvard Coop. [1] [2] [3] A scuffle broke out between attendees and the protestors, with Reihner alleging he was struck repeatedly in the face by attendees. [4] Reihner was interviewed by a number of outlets, including by Alex Jones for Info Wars, for his trouble. [5]

On December 7th, a handful of members of BFS held a Protest Against Violence at the Harvard Coop. Accompanied by Chris Hood, Verrette, Medlar, and two other members who were likely Ziegler and Carey protested the violence of December 1st, specifically the abuse of Jarek Reihner’s face. [1] During the standout, Medlar videoed Ziegler assaulting a local, tackling him to the sidewalk. While Racioppi wasn’t present for either the disruption or vigil, he did later post about Reihner’s assault on Twitter. [2]

On December 9th, Resist Marxism held a “No Sanctuary Cities / Justice for Kate” rally at the Massachusetts State House. The event’s namesake, Kate Steinle, was a woman in San Francisco killed when accidentally shot by José Inez García Zárat upon his discovery of a discarded, potentially defective firearm; García Zárat was not a legal immigrant at the time. [1] Sahady, Bartley, Moura, Meegan, Navom, Pallazola, Smaller, and Reihner were present. [2] [3] After the rally in front of the State House, members walked to the Parkman Bandstand to disrupt a Palestine Rally held by the Boston Democratic Socialists of America. On the way, they met Kirkland, who claimed he had already heckled at the BDSA rally. [4]

On January 20th, Resist Marxism attempted to disrupt the Cambridge MA Women’s March. Resist Marxism prepared their own slate of speakers, which included “Morrigan,” Racioppi, Marsden, and Moura. [1] [2]

On January 27th, Resist Marxism attempted to disrupt the “Justice For Siham [Byah]” rally in Boston MA. Sahady, Medlar, Racioppi, Hood, and Costs were present. [1]

On March 24th, Resist Marxism held a Defend the 2nd Amendment rally at the Massachusetts State House, before marching to disrupt the March For Our Lives in Boston Common. [1] Hood, Smaller, Carey, Navom, Soutter, Lizardo, and Gilbertson were present. [2] [3] [4]

On April 16th, Resist Marxism held a Patriot’s Day Rally in Minute Man Memorial Park of Concord MA. [1] Toese and Ayyadurai spoke. Medlar, Traugott, and Noyes were present. [2] [3] [4]

On May 1st, Resist Marxism held a Boston May Day Action, wherein they disrupted proceedings held by labor and leftist groups. Carey was present. [1]

On May 18th, Luke Barnes of ThinkProgress published an expose on Resist Marxism. [1] Barnes presented Hood’s comments against white supremacy from a 2017 Vox interview alongside his nationalist propaganda efforts as a member of Patriot Front. Toese was present in the chats, despite his infrequent participation in Resist Marxism events. In the fallout of the expose, Three-Percenter Originals organizer “Ylva Morrigan” stopped turning out III%ers to Resist Marxism events, and all but a few III%ers stopped openly associating with Resist Marxism. [♥]

On June 2nd, Resist Marxism held a pro-2nd-Amendment “June 2nd for the Second” rally. [1] During the lead-up to the event, Resist Marxism released a speaker list over Facebook, which included Maider, Racioppi, Moura, Axelrod, “Black Rebel” Andrew Duncomb, Unite the Right 2 organizer Rickey Entwisle, and Daniel J. Guilmette. During the event, Burke spoke. Costs reportedly recorded a livestream. Carey and Muscara were present. Reihner did not attend, but did participate in a livestream of the event; he used the opportunity to broadcast neo-Nazi dogwhistles. [2] [3] [4] [5]

On June 30th, Resist Marxism counter-protested an “Abolish ICE / Families Belong Together” protest in Boston MA. [1] Moura, Medlar, Smaller, and Noyes were present. [2] On this same day in Portland OR, Patriot Prayer held a rally that started at Terry Schrunk Federal Plaza and ended when Portland Police declared the unpermitted event a riot. Among the attendees were members of Resist Marxism, American Guard, and the Proud Boys, the latter of whom gang-attacked an antifascist protester. Sahady, Gibson, and Camden were present. On July 7th, Resist Marxism held a “Speak English Please” rally in NYC, in support of racist lawyer Aaron Schlossberg. Moura and Val were present. [1]

On July 21st, members of Resist Marxism disrupted a general meeting being held by the Boston Democratic Socialists of America. [1]

On August 4th, roughly 30 members of Resist Marxism held a “Freedom Rally” in Providence RI. They were met by a coalition counter-protest calling themselves Ocean State Against Hate, some 250 people strong. OSAH prevented Resist Marxism from reaching the front of the State House, which led to Resist Marxism setting up on the lawn. Within two minutes, counter-protestors managed to tear down the tents protecting Resist Marxism’s audio equipment from the rain, and a brawl broke out between Resist Marxism and OSAH. [1] Racioppi reported being struck in the back of the head with a bike lock; video also has Racioppi charging at a protester from behind. St. Andre started throwing handfuls of horse manure at counter-protestors. Two counter-protestors were arrested by PPD. [2] [3] Carey, Axelrod, Racioppi, Soutter, Moura, Grace Cook, Pallazola, and Noyes were present. Curbelo was slated to speak, but may have not gotten the opportunity before the sound equipment was exposed to rain. [4] [5]

On August 16th, Sahady and Hugo appeared on the Dianna Ploss Show. According to Sahady, this is where he met Hugo. [Speculative: If I recall correctly, Ploss was also interviewing failed MA gubernatorial candidate Scott Lively, who frankly deserves to be tried in the Hague for nearly getting gay folks in Uganda under the threat of the death penalty by vice of his virulent homophobic activism, on this day. Lively claimed that gay people were the true inventors of Nazism and that gay men “probably” participated in the Rwandan genocide to get that much done. Lively is the kind of person Ploss enthusiastically invited to her show at that point (she’s gotten worse since), and it goes to show the kinds of thinkers Sahady and Hugo are.] [∗]

On August 18th, roughly 40 members of Resist Marxism, including the Blue Bloc and American Guard, held an anniversary event for the second Boston Free Speech rally, which they called the “Anniversary March Against Far Left Violence.” [1] The event started at Boston City Hall Plaza, proceeded onto the Orange Line via Haymarket Station, disembarked at Community College Station, met with the Blue Bloc at Austin St & New Rutherford Ave in Charlestown, then marched to the Bunker Hill Monument. Moura, Carey, Muscara, Sahady, Camden, Navom, Avery, Donald Nichols, Mitchell Nichols, Melissa Masterson, Ballesteros, Pallazola, Andrew & Grace Cook, Coombes, Ziehl, Soutter, Sender, Racioppi, Lizardo, and Medlar were present. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]

On August 26th, Resist Marxism organized a counter-protest against David Hogg’s 50 Miles More march, starting on the 23rd in Worcester MA and ending at the Smith & Wesson HQ in Springfield MA. [1] The counter was originally supposed to be organized by Chastain of the Three Percenters; she backed out claiming a lack of personnel to keep people safe at the event. Racioppi and Navom were present. [2] [3]

On September 4th, Hugo defeated Louis Kuchnir in the Republican primary for the House election of Massachusetts’s 5th Congressional District. [Speculative: Hugo, one of the most grating people I’ve seen in MA reactionary right organizing, won this? By 5k votes?! What kind of charisma-void is Kuchnir?] [1]

On October 6th, Resist Marxism held another “Freedom Rally” in Providence RI. Sahady purportedly organized and tapped the Proud Boys for security. [1] Various Proud Boys were videoed assaulting counter-protesters; this included Medlar, who was largely recorded being ineffective and taking several punches to the head. [2] [3] According to Racioppi, there were multiple speakers planned, but escalating violence toward counterprotesters compelled the Providence PD to shut down the event early, preventing Gibson and Toese from speaking. [4] Camden, Swinney, Cardona, Avery, Muscara, Moura, Costs, Sahady, Hare, Lizardo, Grace Cook, Racioppi, Brown, Ballesteros, Andrew Cook, Noyes, Ziehl, Giammarco, Burleson, Ploss, and “Morrigan” were also present. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] Two days later, Rod Webber uploaded a video of an interview between Gregg Housh and Camden, which included Navom for a moment, that may have happened shortly after the rally, to his Youtube channel. [17] Kirkland reported being unable to make it in the Youtube comments of the Citizens’ Dawn video of the event. [18] Racioppi seemed to admit assaulting a counter-protester in an exchange over Twitter several months later. [19]

On October 23rd, Navom’s defamation suit against Boston Mayor Marty Walsh was dismissed by Judge Christopher Barry-Smith in Middlesex County Superior Court, for failing to state a claim of actual malice by Walsh. According to Barry-Smith in his judgement:

"In light of free speech concerns, the plaintiff must prove actual malice by clear and convincing evidence; this high standard requires the proof be strong, positive, and free from doubt.

[…]

"Here, although the plaintiff’s complaint contains conclusory allegations about Walsh’s alleged recklessness and maliciousness, it contains no factual assertions that lend plausibility to these conclusions.

[…]

"…It was perfectly reasonable for the mayor of Boston to be concerned that the Boston rally could become a gathering place for hate groups or violent protesters, regardless of plaintiff’s specific intentions for the rally or his non-affiliation with hate groups."

Navom’s suit did not win its subsequent appeal. He would refile, this time in federal court, during August 2020. [Speculative: An amazingly appropriate outcome. The verdict held closer to the politics that Boston Free Speech claimed to have than Navom did!] [♣] [1]

On October 28th, seven members and/or affiliates of Resist Marxism attempted to disrupt the Rally for Trans Rights in Boston MA. [1]

On November 3rd, Resist Marxism held a rally for Hugo at Library Park in Woburn MA. Sahady, Racioppi, Navom, Ploss, Moura, Ziehl, Muscara, Andrew Cook, Grace Cook, Ianni, Soutter, and Gilbertson were present. [1] [2] [3]

On November 6th, Hugo lost the House election for Massachusetts’s 5th Congressional District to Democrat Katherine Clark. With 161k votes to ~75k votes, Clark earned over three times the votes as Hugo. [1]

Sometime during winter ‘18, Moura began to behave erratically toward Camden, Muscara, and a frequent participant in Resist Marxism events whom he’d been dating. Moura attempted to leverage North Shore Antifa in attempts to doxx both Cook and Muscara in retaliation for their perceived relationship to his girlfriend at the time, and used a fake Facebook account to threaten Camden’s daughter while posing as an antifascist. While North Shore Antifa saw through the ruse, Camden did not seem to be so quick on the pick-up; this possibly led to him escalating in violence during Resist Marxism’s January 2019 Women’s March disruption. [1]

On December 1st, members of the Blue Bloc took part in the Yellow Vest protests in Paris, France. [1] Grace Cook was present, and responsible for the photography. [2]

On December 6th, the resident chapter of Young Americans for Liberty ostensibly held an Open Borders Vs. Closed Borders “Debate” at Berklee College. It was in actuality a Resist Marxism event, with Patriot Front present and operating in a “security capacity.” [1] [2] [3] [4] Maider, Sahady, Navom, Soutter, Coombes, Bartley, Hood, and Racioppi (acting as debate moderator) were present. [5] [6] Hood was likely accompanied by Robert Budzyna, another member of Patriot Front who has since been convicted of arson attacks and tried for or convicted of numerous violations of at least two abuse prevention orders. [7]

On December 21st, members of the Blue Bloc took part in the Boston First Night New Years Eve Parade. [1]

On January 19th, Resist Marxism attempted to disrupt the Boston Women’s March. In the lead-up to the event, the Daughters of Liberty expressed interest in participating in the disruption. [1] [2] During the event, Sahady attempted to assault at least one transwoman in black bloc, with Navom having to de-escalate him. Camden in particular was highly aggressive, and recorded assaulting a number of people and issuing several enraged death threats while also being protective of Grace Cook. [3] [4] [5] Their disruption ultimately did not succeed, as they were chased off by antifascists. [6] Besides Sahady, Navom, Camden, and Cook, Avery, Moura, Lizardo, Bartley, Soutter, Ballesteros, Hidler, Gilbertson, Burleson, and Smaller were also present. Alias “Ylva Morrigan” and Janet Muscara expressed interest in attending. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16]

On February 28th, Resist Marxism announced the postponement of a rally they planned to stage in Providence RI for April 6th, organized by Swinney. In a press release, an unknown representative stated that the postponement was on request of the Proud Boys (likely a request by Swinney himself), to allow them to focus on the upcoming trials of at-the-time nine members charged for assaults after a speech by Gavin McInnes at the Manhattan Republican Club in NYC. [1] [2] In the lead-up to the cancelled rally, Racioppi, who had purportedly left Resist Marxism due to differences with Moura, expressed interest in attending. [3]

On March 15th, 51 people were slain by a reactionary right-wing shooter at the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Center in Christchurch NZ. This is notable for how positively received it was by various members of Resist Marxism, specifically Moura, Camden, Axelrod, and Ballesteros. [1]

On March 16th, the official Super Happy Fun America website went live, registered on Dreamhost. [1] Hugo was credited as president, Sahady as VP, Bartley as “gay ambassador,” and Brad Pitt as “mascot” in an attempt to generate a publicity stunt. [2]

On April 11th, Resist Marxism held a Free Assange rally in Boston MA. Two members of the Blue Bloc, Sahady, and Racioppi were present. [1] [2]

On May 1st, members of Patriot Prayer incited a riot at the Cider Riot bar in Portland OR, as its patrons celebrated May Day. Gibson was present, and encouraged other members of Patriot Prayer to assault patrons by forcefully removing their face masks. Other members of Patriot Prayer threw objects and deployed mace against patrons. Gibson was also recorded shoving a woman whom Patriot Prayer member Ian Kramer then struck with a metal baton, breaking vertebrae in her neck. Patriot Prayer and a number of its members were subject to both state felony charges and a civil suit filed by the owner of Cider Riot. [1] [2] [3] [4] While other members pled guilty to the state charges, Gibson was acquitted of the associated riot charges in 2022. [5] [Speculative: Again, this is included as a potential type of violence members of Resist Marxism were looking to import into Boston.]

On May 22nd, Andy Campbell of The Huffington Post released an expose on the Proud Boys’ plans to assault counter-protesters at the cancelled April 6th rally. Included in the leaks were Swinney, Toese, Hufton, Mastrostefano, Cardano, Lizardo, and Chapman. [1] Also included were Hufton’s overtures on how he would assassinate antifascist researcher “Antifash Gordon” if given the chance. [2]

On or before May 31st, lawyers representing Brad Pitt sent a cease-and-desist to Super Happy Fun America regarding their usage of his likeness as their “mascot.” [1] While images featuring Pitt’s likeness were subsequently removed from SHFA’s webpage, the stunt served its purpose in providing SHFA with free publicity.

On June 2nd, Resist Marxism attempted to disrupt the March for Life in Boston MA. Sahady, Hugo, and Racioppi were present. [1]

Sometime before June 10th, Moura would rebrand the Blue Bloc as Revolt Through Tradition. According to apocrypha, Moura failed to use an anonymizing service when registering the group’s website, causing his identity to be disclosed in the site’s who.is information. [1] [♥]

On July 6th, members of Super Happy Fun America attended a “Demand Free Speech” rally, organized by far-right figures including Gavin McInnes and Laura Loomer, in Washington DC. [1] Racioppi, Navom, Gilbertson, and Sullivan were present, at one point posing for a photo with a straight-pride flag and Gavin McInnes. At another point, Sullivan attacked a counter-protester. [2]

On July 8th, Super Happy Fun America was incorporated as a nonprofit with the MA Secretary of the Commonwealth. Hugo was listed as president, Racioppi as Treasurer, and Sahady as both Clerk and Director. [©]

On August 31st, Super Happy Fun America held their first event in the form of the Straight Pride Parade in Boston MA. In the lead-up to the event, Hugo, Racioppi, and a third organizer out of Malden (likely Sahady) received suspicious packages containing glitter and Bible passages, prompting them to call emergency services. [1] SHFA received cease-and-desist letters from Bank of America and Netflix for usage of the companies’ logos for self-promotion in another publicity stunt. [2] SHFA announced that the Patriot Saints were going to be handling security; they purportedly dropped out after a thread on founder Chad Hidler was released by antifascist researcher “Antifash Gordon.” [3] The Friday before the event, stringer and functional propagandist for reactionary right groups Ford Fischer of News2Rise was allowed to record the final planning meeting for the event; planners included Sahady, Racioppi, Hugo, and Teresa Richenberger. Fisher also interviewed Racioppi. [4] [5] During the event, the Parade started in Copley Square, travelled down Boylston and Tremont St, then arrived at City Hall Plaza. Milo Yiannopolous was present as “grand marshal,” with Hufton serving as his personal security. [6] [7] Slated to speak and/or perform were members Hugo, Sahady, Racioppi, and Medlar, and guests Barbara from Harlem, Felecia Nace, Teresa Richenberger (billed as SHFA’s “spiritual advisor”), G. Notes Justice, Marvina Case, and the Amazing Lucas, according to SHFA’s website. [8] During the march, NSM members Anthony Petruccelli and Sarah Flynn carried an official banner advertising event t-shirts. [9] Future NSC-131 member Chase Gilroy was photographed at several points during the march, at times shadowing Yiannopolous. [10] According to activists on the ground, Camden and Lizardo were actively patrolling along the parade route outside of the police barricades, looking to incite fistfights. Their attempts proved unsuccessful when BPD forced the both of them to get back on the parade’s side of the barricades. [♥] Andrew Cook, Coombes (dressed as a shark), Cresswell, Hoover, Ancker, Elkins, Schutte, Brown, Hutt, and Childress were present. [11] The parade itself was five minutes long. After the march reached its speaking area, Grace Cook performed the National Anthem. [12] Unfortunately, Yiannopolous spoke for an agonizing 15 minutes. [13] After speakers concluded, BPD confronted counter-protesters and, without giving an order to disperse, began indiscriminately pepper-spraying. 36 people were arrested, 34 of whom were allegedly counter-protesters. [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] This event was not overtly connected to the Straight Pride Parade thrown by the National Straight Pride Coalition on the 24th of the same month in Modesto CA. [20] [Speculative: It bears noting that the concept of “straight pride” is something that the Ku Klux Klan have tried to seed into public consciousness in the past.]

On September 18th, Moura was arrested for criminal harassment of a woman he met while acting as spokesman for Resist Marxism. Represented in court by Augustus Invictus, he was arraigned in Winchendon District Court and released on personal recognizance. [♣] [1] [2]

On October 20th, Moura and Soutter disrupted a screening of Rod Webber’s documentary on the Straight Pride Parade. [1]

On November 8th, Moura pled guilty to one count of annoying telephone calls, one count of criminal harassment and 32 counts of violating a harassment prevention order by Winchendon District Court. He was sentenced to time served and two years of probation. [♣] [1]

On November 16th, Super Happy Fun America participated in a single-digits Straight Pride Parade in Dallas TX. Richenberger, its organizer, had canceled the event in the face of a potential $15k bill from the city for police and garbage clean-up. Sahady and Navom, who by the time of the cancellation had already bought their flights, were present and constituted exactly half of the procession. [1]

On January 10th, SHFA held a pro-Trump rally in South Hampton NH. [∗]

On February 22nd, SHFA held a “Back the Blue” rally in Boston MA. Johnson, Sahady, Hugo, Racioppi, Ianni, Kelley, and Grace Cook were present. [Speculative: Coombes was also likely present, assuming that was still him the shark costume carrying around a Libertarian Party flag.] [1]

On April 17th, SHFA organized a “Freedom Convoy” in Boston MA. [∗]

On May 4th, SHFA held a “Liberty Rally” at the MA State House. [∗]

On May 16th, SHFA held a protest outside of Governor Baker’s house in Swampscott MA. [∗]

On May 30th, SHFA held a “Reopen MA” rally in Boston MA. [∗]

On June 27th, Super Happy Fun America held a “Restore Sanity” rally in front of the MA State House. Sahady, Hugo, Racioppi, Navom, Bartley, Giarrizzo, Johnson, Kelley, Sullivan, Jeremy Cayford, Rayla Campbell, Dianna Ploss, Adam Dingle, Kenny Larkin, Cindy Verna, Vincent Delaney, Nathaniel Shurtleff, and Janet VC were present. In attendance was Chris Hood’s Nationalist Social Club of New England, which included Hood, Moura, Anthony Petruccelli, Zach Brackett, Cameron Anthony, and Edward Stuart. Purportedly, NSC-131 attempted to recruit Cayford as a member during this event. [1] [2] [3] [4]

On or around July 1st, pro-marijuana-legalization advocacy group MassCann voted 7-0 in favor of a motion of no-confidence against Racioppi, at the time serving as the group’s chair. He then resigned. [1]

On October 18th, Super Happy Fun America held what they called a “Peaceful Protest Against Democrat Violence” In Boston MA. Racioppi spoke. Johnson and Navom were present. [1] [2]

On November 5th, since-convicted felon and since-adjudicated rapist Donald Trump was defeated by Joe Biden in the election for President of the United States. [1]

On December 4th, Super Happy Fun America held a conference of various groups to plan demonstrations regarding the coronavirus lockdown. Sahady, Hugo, and Racioppi were present. [1]

2021

On January 6th, several members and associates of Super Happy Fun America participated in the failed putsch of the U.S. Capitol. In the lead-up to the 6th, Ianni helped to organize 11 buses out of various cities in Massachusetts, with Kopacz helping with the busses out of the Springfield area. [1] Sahady and Ianni were eventually charged for unlawfully entering the Capitol Building, and Brown was charged for destruction of property and acts of violence on Capitol grounds. Ianni was sentenced to 15 days in prison during December 2022. Sahady was sentenced to 5 months in prison during November 2024. Brown was sentenced to 20 days in prison. [♣] [2] [3] [4] [5] Racioppi, Navom, Kelley, and Montefalcone were present, though it is not known if they entered the Capitol building. A small cadre of members of NSC-131 were also present, seemingly with the company of Cayford. One, Richard Ackerman, was later charged with stealing a Capitol Police riot helmet and assault on a Capitol Police officer. [6] [7] [8] [9] [Speculative: There are rumors that Proud Boy & NSC-131 member Jeremiah Shivers also attempted to attend J6, but that he was prevented from doing so due to an arrest for domestic abuse. There is some evidence to indicate this is possible, though I am largely aware of said evidence as file numbers. [♠] [♣] ]

On March 20th, SHFA members and associates appeared at the “Spring FREE Rally” in Bridgewater MA, organized by Courtney Andrade. [1] Sahady, Ianni, Racioppi, and Rayla Campbell were present, as was Proud Boy & NSC-131 member Jeremiah Shivers. [2] [3]

On March 27th, Del Gallo reported that Sahady had not been paying Del Gallo for his work getting Sahady out on pre-trial release, as related to Sahady’s J6 charges. [1] [2]

On April 6th, Navom’s defamation suit against Boston Mayor Marty Walsh was dismissed for the third and final time, this time in federal court. [♣] [1] [2]

On April 19th, SHFA held a small Patriots Day rally in Lexington MA. Hugo spoke. [∗]

On April 28th, Moura attempted to illegally purchase several firearms (including an automatic rifle) and over 100 rounds of ammunition. The seller was an undercover FBI agent, and Moura was arrested for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Moura pled guilty during June 2022, and was sentenced to 37 months of prison and three years of probation during December 2022. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

On July 24th, Super Happy Fun America held a “Refounding Fathers Festival” and fundraiser at the Century Sportsman’s Club in Auburn MA. [1] Sahady, Hugo, Racioppi, Ianni, Navom, and Steinhof were present, and Kopacz spoke. [2] [3] [4] [Speculative: This was pretty much craven begging toward local conservative businesspeople for donations to Sahady & Ianni’s legal defense funds, right? Right.]

On August 21st, Proud Boys held a “Summer of Love” rally at a commercial parking lot outside of an abandoned K-Mart in Portland OR, to commemorate a massive brawl between competing left-wing and right-wing rallies in downtown Portland the year before. [1] Toese was present, and among the speakers. Violence eventually broke out between the Proud Boys and antifascist protesters, with street fights breaking out along several blocks. At one point, an uninvolved driver pulled into the parking lot; several Proud Boys assaulted the driver, and battered and flipped the vehicle. [2] Later on, Dennis Anderson of Gresham OR opened fire on antifascist protesters. This compelled local police to finally intercede and end the riot; Anderson was arrested, and no one was hurt. [3] After violence dispersed, Toese and other Proud Boys continued assaulting locals, targeting them with paintball guns. Toese was later charged with a number of felonies, including riot, stemming from this event later this year. [4] [Speculative: This event is included as yet another example of a possible end-stage result for Resist Marxism’s intended goals of incitement, had things gone very differently in Boston MA.]

On September 11th, SHFA held a 9/11 memorial and a protest against “Biden’s failures” in Natick MA. [∗]

On or before September 27th, CORR held a “Freedom Fest” in Warren RI. Steinhof, Ianni, and Hugo were present. [1]

On October 27th, antifascist coalition “Solidarity Against Hate Boston” released identifying information on CORR organizer and alleged spousal & animal abuser David Steinhof, in preparation for the SHFA/CORR event the next month. Antifascist researcher “Green Monster Antifa” released additional information on Steinhof the next day. [1] [2] [3]

On October 27th, antifascist researcher “Green Monster Antifa” released identifying information on CORR organizer & Dighton-Rehoboth MA school committee member Katie Ferriera-Aubin. Having been elected during April of this year, Ferriera-Aubin achieved some amount of note when she compared vaccine mandates to being systemically exterminated during the Holocaust. [1] [2]

On November 1st, antifascist researcher “Green Monster Antifa” released identifying information on CORR organizer Melissa Terra. [1]

On November 2nd, antifascist researcher “Green Monster Antifa” released identifying information on CORR organizer Joshua Mello. [1]

On November 3rd, antifascist researcher “Green Monster Antifa” released identifying information on CORR member & Three-Percenter Steven Pittsley. [1]

On November 7th, SHFA held an anti-COVID-lockdown “Rise Against Tyranny” march through Boston MA. Racioppi and several members of CORR were present. They were met by counter-protesters. McCarron, while attempting to drive the event’s rental van away from the event, crashed through a police barricade after “getting spooked” by counter-protesters, and was arrested. Providence RI “1st Amendment auditor” William Turbitt was also arrested. Racioppi reported being maced by counter-protesters. [♣] [1]

2022

On January 5th, SHFA members attended a “Massachusetts Says No” anti-vaccine rally in front of the Massachusetts State House. Sahady and Ianni were present. [1]

On August 21st, Super Happy Fun America held a “Crimes of the FBI” protest in front of the FBI branch office in Chelsea MA. [1]

On September 6th, Racioppi lost the Republican primary for a seat in the House of Representatives for the 1st Essex district. As a write-in, he received 110 votes. [1]

On September 18th, Canadian anti-trans activist “Billboard Chris” Elston organized a rally outside of Boston Children’s Hospital, based on lies that BCH was offering “gender-affirming hysterectomies.” Elston and self-described stochastic terrorist Chaya Raichik a/k/a “Libs of Tiktok” played a significant role in ginning up outrage, resulting directly in a series of bomb threats being made against BCH before and during the rally. Burke attended, and held a livestream of the event. [♥] [1]

On October 15th, Super Happy Fun America participated in the anti-abortion Men’s March in Boston MA. Hugo and Racioppi were present, as were Medlar and purportedly Carey after a long absence in far-right organizing. [♥]

On October 20th, IdaVox released a story about Racioppi graduating from New England Law School, and passing the Massachusetts Bar Exam. Racioppi’s name appeared in a MA bar exam pass list later that week. [1] [2]

2023

On May 17th, Navom allegedly hired Gabriel McLenithan, a former tenant and roommate, to burn down a condemned North Adams building that Navom owned in an insurance fraud scheme. McLenithan was not able to keep a lid on his deed, or the amount of money he was paid to commit it. Navom would be arrested on June 12th; Del Gallo would represent him on a limited basis. On September 27th, Navom and Gabriel McLenithan were both indicted on their arson & conspiracy charges in Berkshire Superior Court. The docket on Navom’s Northern Berkshire District Court case indicates that the charges against him there were dismissed both due to the successful indictment in the Superior Court, and due to the defendant being deceased. [Speculative: While both Navom’s and McLenithan’s dockets indicate that charges were dismissed for both on account of the indictments, there is no dismissal notice in McLenithan’s District Court docket indicating his charges were dismissed on account of him being deceased. Kinda looks like Navom is dead! The whole thing bears out what he was until the end; a prevaricating crook.] [1] [♣] [2]

On November 4th, the Men’s March held another anti-abortion protest event in Boston MA. 17 counter-protesters, including the daughter of U.S. Representative Katherine Clark, were arrested. It is unclear if any members of SHFA attended. Several members of Patriot Front, however, were present; one, a previous Unite the Right attendee, was identified for his trouble. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

2024

On August 28th, NSC-131 published a legal summary documents that revealed Racioppi as their point of contact with Gens & Stanton PC, the law firm representing Chris Hood & NSC-131 in a number of civil lawsuits. [∗] Racioppi, under the title of “Clerk,” wraps up the summary with this statement:

"As I told you many times previously, it is an honor to assist you with these various cases. It is this type of advocacy that motivated me to attend law school in the first place."

On October 5th, Super Happy Fun America protested a drag queen story hour in Somerville MA. Organized by Doherty, the SHFA protest numbered at roughly a dozen people and was itself counter-protested by local pro-LGBTQ+ activists and supporters. Ianni was present. The event was called off by Somerville & Cambridge PDs after a bomb threat was called in. Doherty was alleged to have been prevented from entering the Somerville Public Library’s Central Branch well after the bomb threat was announced by police. Doherty, knowing a bomb threat had been the inciting incident to cancel the event, also claimed the shutdown as a victory on her social media before deleting the post. [Speculative: I believe continuing to enter the building after the bomb threat had been announced indicates that Doherty knew that the bomb threat was not credible. I also believe that taking credit for shutting down the event, when it was clearly the police responding to a bomb threat shutting it down, indicates she may have known who did it.] [1] [2] [3] [4] [♥]

On November 5th, convicted felon and adjudicated rapist Donald Trump was once again elected as the President of the United States. [1]

On November 16th, the Men’s March once again organized an anti-abortion march down Commonwealth Avenue in Boston MA. Counter-protesters, including a retinue of activist clowns and musicians, got ahead of the march, preventing it from reaching its destination for an hour. Medlar was present, and spoke. An unidentified woman, a self-admitted member of SHFA, also attended and recorded video. [1] [2]

2025

On January 20th, Donald Trump pardoned over 1k federal defendants charged in the J6 Capitol Putsch. The pardons covered Sahady and Ianni, as well as a number of New-England-area putschists who had already been convicted and sentenced. [1] [2]

On February 10th, Kinga Borondy of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported on the pushback to a planned “Civics Matters” event to be hosted out of Hudson MA. Members of the Hudson MA Republican Town Committee planned to host the event at the local Avidia Bank branch, scheduled for the 20th. Sahady and Ianni were billed as guests. Pushback on social media was furious enough to prompt organizers, afraid of a protest potentially 700 people strong, to cancel. [1] [2] [3] [4]

On March 21st, Rodd Bookman of WBUR reported that Racioppi was facing some friction from the New Hampshire Bar Association in terms of acquiring a NH law license. According to William Gens, a partner at the law firm that employs Racioppi as a clerk, Racioppi abandoned the law licensing process in Massachusetts after fellow students from New England Law wrote letters to the MA Bar Association opposing his membership, among other unspecified “dogpiling.” [1]

On March 27th, Camden was arrested on criminal mischief charges, relating to his destruction of a statue of Baphomet posted by the Satanic Temple in Concord NH during December 2024. Camden was arrested alongside David Petriel, who also participated. Joshua Cummings, another participant, was arrested the next day. [1]
