Patriot Front, Network 7

Preamble

Patriot Front is a white nationalist and neo-fascist hate group presenting itself as an American nationalist organization, having split off from neo-Nazi organization Vanguard America in the aftermath of 2017’s Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville VA. Its founder, Thomas Rousseau, was a member of Vanguard America at the time of UTR, and several members of Patriot Front are also former members of Vanguard America. According to Unicorn Riot:

“Within [Patriot Front]’s divisions across the U.S., it hides its neo-Nazi ideology behind patriotism and vague dog whistles about ’globalists’ and the ’degeneration’ of America’s ’founding stock.’ In the group’s public messaging, it does not ’name its enemies,’ (as one critical member put it) preferring instead to focus its rhetoric on romanticized allusions to, what they see as, America’s glorious founding.” [1]

According to MacKenzie Ryan, of The Guardian:

“Patriot Front’s fundraising and mobilizing efforts […] reveal a corporate-style organization that more resembles a media production company with satellite offices than a classic neo-Nazi group.

“Undergirding Patriot Front’s activities is a rigid, top-down hierarchy, researchers say.

“Rousseau is at the head. Lieutenants run departments of the group, including media production, recruitment and online security. Fifteen regional network directors organize local and national activities, and supervise members.

“Once recruits become members, they are required to attend monthly roundups, hit a weekly activism quota, and show up to demonstrations, according to [ADL researcher Morgan] Moon. If they don’t, Rousseau expels them from Patriot Front.

“Internal chats obtained by extremist experts show members complaining about the ongoing expenses they incur paying for stickers, stencils and other mandatory propaganda materials, which Rousseau charges them for.

Rousseau charges members a premium for Patriot Front propaganda material, [SPLC senior research analyst Jeff] Tischauser said, adding that network directors are expected to push members to purchase flyers to go on several flyering runs a month. ‘In this sense, Patriot Front is close to a white nationalist pyramid scheme,’ Tischauser notes.” [1]

Patriot Front is tightly controlled by Rousseau, supposedly out of fear of prosecution by law enforcement. As a result, their activism is typically limited to tagging, in the forms of flyering, stickering, and spray-painting, especially if it defaces a piece of public artwork associated with social justice. They will occasionally coordinate large-scale marches, wherein members from other networks will travel cross-country to a specific location in order to forward a false image of massive local presence. Patriot Front as a whole is affiliated with Media2Rise, the propaganda arm of Rob Rundo project Will2Rise. [1]

Network 7 is a regional division of Patriot Front, which encompasses most of New England (save the portions of Fairfield County, Connecticut occupied by Network 10). The Network Director for Network 7 is either currently unknown or unassigned, though it does have active members serving as Quartermaster and Scribe. [1]

This dossier is not largely concerned with what Patriot Front believes or how it functions, as that is covered by other extant documents more thoroughly. This dossier’s remit revolves around collecting information about its members and cataloging their activities. It is made through the effort of a great deal of antifascists, journalists, and otherwise, and can be revised with the feedback of other antifascists.

Changes since last revision will be highlighted as such. Notes and citations will be provided throughout the document in the form of links to external websites, represented by bracketed numbers. Wherein a set of brackets contains a symbol other than a number, this is meant to represent either a physical document with no online copy (such as a police report or court case), or a database that cannot/will not be cited in a specific manner (such as the ADL’s HEAT Map, or social media accounts operated by known fascists). Membership

This section is meant to list known members of varying status and associates of Network 7, and provide citations specific to those members. For known objective information such as heights and birthdays, please refer to the “Member info & vitals” section.

It should be stressed that Patriot Front does not admit women or people who identify as predominantly Jewish or non-white as members, and prefers white men as members by far. Internal chats seem to indicate that membership is open to men who are at least 80% white, though that number changes on a case-by-case basis, especially if the interviewee indicates they are partially Jewish.

Timeline of activities

Minor events that solely involve banner-drops or graffiti, that do not require mass member turnout, and are not particularly newsworthy will be tracked in a separate document. Minor events will be included where Patriot Front’s own leaked reportage can be tied to identifying information of known members. Rough counts of said minor events will be given at the end of each given year’s subsection once the minor activity document has been prepared.

2017

On August 12th, James Alex Fields Jr. rammed his car into a crowd of protesters during the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville VA. His attack left one dead and 35 injured. Fields had been marching with Vanguard America during the morning, before the city declared a state of emergency and canceled the planned rally at noon. This specific event led to Rousseau splitting off from Vanguard America to form Patriot Front. While not involved in the attack, future NW7 member Ryan Roy was recorded attending the torch march through Charlottesville the night previous. He would be fired from his job at Uno Pizzeria in South Burlington VT on August 15th for his participation. [1] Future Patriot Front members Kevin Cottle of NW7, Christopher Ritchie, Dustin “Chef Goyardee” Hamby, Colton Fears, and William Fears IV of Network 2, Ian Michael Elliott of Network 6, and Paul Michael Gancarz of Network 9 were also present, according to the Ignite the Right database. Sometime around October ‘17, Chris Hood joined Patriot Front. According to Hood, he opted to join PF instead of the United States Marine Corps at Rousseau’s behest. He also began to attend events hosted by Boston-based alt-right coalition group Resist Marxism, allegedly seeking to recruit for Patriot Front. Resist Marxism itself was a rebranding of Boston Free Speech, a civic nationalist front for online fascist group Anti-Communist Action, which chose to rebrand after having been subject to an immense counter-protest in Boston after the events in Charlottesville in ‘17. Hood was purportedly the first Massachusetts resident to join Patriot Front, and Network VII got its start largely through his organizing efforts. [1]

On December 1st, Hood, alias “Matthias Thorpe,” and Boston Free Speech member Chris Bartley disrupted a reading of Mark Bray’s “Antifascist Handbook” hosted at the Harvard Coop. A scuffle broke out between attendees and the protesters, with Thorpe alleging he was struck repeatedly in the face by attendees. [1] [2]

Sometime in December, Anthony Chandler of Network 10 and 12 other members of Patriot Front held a flash rally in Hartford CT. [1] [2]

2018

On February 10th, members of Patriot Front flyered and held a flash rally in Burlington VT. Roy and Anthony Chandler of Network 10 were present. [1]

On February 17th, Barbosa committed a propaganda flyering in Boston Common. [1]

On February 21st, Barbosa committed a pair of propaganda flyerings, the first at his hometown of Fall River MA, and the second at UMass-Dartmouth. [1]

On March 1st, Hood, Barbosa, and Antoine Renard of Network 9 aka “Charlemagne MD” committed a propaganda flyering at the UMass Boston campus. [1] [2]

On March 6th, Thomas Rousseau registered an account on the new Patriot Front Rocketchat server. This is likely indicative of when the server was created on its particular domain. [1]

On March 9th, Barbosa committed a propaganda flyering at Salem State University. [citation needed]

On March 12th, Ryan Roy registered an account on the new Patriot Front Rocketchat server. This is not indicative of Roy’s join date, given his participation in events in February of this year and the nascency of the Rocketchat server. [1]

On March 24th, Resist Marxism held a Defend the 2nd Amendment rally at the Massachusetts State House, before marching to disrupt the March For Our Lives in Boston Common. Hood and Smaller were present in Patriot Front masks, at one point bearing a Gadsden flag. [1] [2]

On May 4th, Mark Hayden registered an account on the Patriot Front Rocketchat server. This is possibly indicative of his join date, given it was not in the same window that Rousseau and Roy registered. [1]

On May 18th, Luke Barnes of ThinkProgress published an expose on Resist Marxism. Barnes presented Hood’s comments against white supremacy from a Vox article published in August ‘17 alongside his nationalist propaganda efforts as a member of Patriot Front. [1] [2]

On June 30th, Resist Marxism counter-protested an Abolish ICE / Families Belong Together protest in Boston MA. Smaller was present, as a member of Resist Marxism’s Blue Bloc. [1] [2]

On November 18th, Hood and four other members of Patriot Front attempted to disrupt the Boston Anarchist Bookfair. [1] [2]

On December 1st, Patriot Front members including Hood marched on Washington DC. [1] [2]

On December 6th, the resident chapter of Young Americans for Liberty ostensibly held an Open Borders Vs. Closed Borders “Debate” at Berklee College. It was in actuality a Resist Marxism event, with Patriot Front present and operating in a “security capacity.” Hood and potentially Budzyna were present. Hood later claimed that he “got 2 members from it,” though whether he meant from this event or from Resist Marxism in general is debatable. [1] [2] [3] [‡] [4] [5]

2019

In February, sometime between the night of the 4th and the morning of the 5th, Patriot Front members committed a propaganda campaign at the Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, the Pride Center of Vermont, and Champlain High School in Burlington VT. [1]

On February 14th, Hood, Wolf, the elder Hayden, Miller, Barker, Armstrong, and Tylar Larson of Network 10, attempted to post Patriot Front propaganda in East Boston MA. They were stopped by police after being seen with spraycans. After a physical altercation between Wolf and the police, Wolf, Hood, and Larson were arrested on weapons charges. According to the BPD, Hood was carrying a 5” spring-loaded knife, Larson was carrying brass knuckles, and Miller was carrying a can of mace, all of which were confiscated. Wolf, Hood, and Larson were arraigned on the 19th, and released on $500 cash bail. They were ordered to report back to court for March 26. According to MassCourts, Hood was represented by Nitin Dalal, a local attorney out of Milton MA, and Augustus Invictus, the moniker chosen by Austin Mitchell Gillespie, attorney, previous chair of the Libertarian Party of Orange County FL, failed US Senate candidate, spousal abuser, expelled Sergeant-at-Arms of the Florida chapter of American Guard, and very cracked neo-Nazi. These charges were dismissed in 2020. [♣] [1] [2] [3]

On February 24th, antifascist researcher “Antifash Gordon” released identifying documentation on Patriot Front member Alex Barker. [1]

On June 28th, in the early hours of morning, Budzyna attempted to burn down two apartments in Auburn MA with Molotov cocktails. The weapons did negligible damage. Auburn PD recovered Budzyna’s DNA from the bottles, but were not able to tie him to the crime until 2022. [1] [2]

On July 6th, about 17-20 members of Patriot Front held a flash rally in Bunker Hill’s Monument Square, in Charlestown MA. They unfurled a banner and lit flares, later fleeing in vehicles tied to Lowell MA and NY state. Hood claimed over internal chats that the rally included members from Texas, New York, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Wisconsin, and Vermont. Aeden Tredinnick aka “Vincent VA,” “John GA,” and “Damon TX” may have attended. Hood credited Kieran Morris aka “Patrick NY,” Victor Staab aka “Victor MD,” and “Scott NC” as having organized contingents to attend from out-of-state, and Spellman-Oldenquist, “Jeffrey VA,” “Max MD,” “James MA,” and “Benjamin WI” indicated that they attended. Staab indicated that Roy was present, and took a falling drone to the face. A number of members complained that burning magnesium from the flares damaged their clothes. [‡] [1]

On July 8th, Hood claimed that he was going to begin working as PF’s print shop as a part-time job. [‡]

On or before July 16th, members of Patriot Front postered in Leominster MA. In internal PF chats, the elder Hayden and Roy both indicated that nearly 100 posters were put up by 8 members split in two teams. [‡] [1]

On July 18th, Hood mentioned in PF internal chats that he had been talking to the leader of American Guard (possibly Brien James of Indianapolis IN), about allowing women and persons of color into PF. Hood balked at this, but revealed that NW7’s photographer at the time was a woman. [‡] [1]

On July 29th, Patriot Front’s first Telegram channel was registered. This particular social media channel is primarily used as a tracker of local propaganda material (“promat”) events. Video of the Bunker Hill flash rally was the second video released on this channel. [∗]

On August 1st, the Patriot Front Telegram channel posted about Vermont for the first time, specifically of a promat event in Burlington. [∗]

On August 4th, Hood, Bogosh, Budzyna, the elder Hayden, alias “Matthias Thorpe,” and four other members of Patriot Front attempted to disrupt the Boston March Against Cages, an anti-ICE demonstration. “Thorpe” was photographed giving the Roman salute during the march. The demonstrators cornered the Patriot Front members in an Orange Line station, where they fled aboard a train. A photo of the event depicted Budzyna and Hood as rattled by the confrontation. [1] [2] [3] [4]

On August 5th, the Patriot Front Telegram channel posted about Rhode Island for the first time, specifically of a promat event in Providence. [∗]

On August 9th, the Patriot Front Telegram channel posted about Maine for the first time, specifically of a promat event in Portland. [∗]

On August 12th, the Patriot Front Telegram channel posted about New Hampshire for the first time, specifically of a hike in an undisclosed wooded area. [∗]

As of August 15th, Hood was no longer marked as “Network Director” in Patriot Front internal logs. [‡]

On September 1st, the Patriot Front Telegram channel posted about Connecticut for the first time, specifically of a promat event in Putnam. [∗]

As of September 7th, members out of Texas were handling print duties, apparently having taken them over from Hood. [‡]

On October 3rd, Hood, Brackett, Budzyna, and other members of Patriot Front dropped a banner from an overpass in Hartford CT. They were accompanied by Michael Moura, Anthony Petruccelli, Sarah Flynn, Cameron Anthony, and an unidentified member of the National Socialist Movement. Moura, Petruccelli, and Anthony would all later join Hood’s Nationalist Social Club of New England. [1]

On or before October 25th, Hood was expelled from Patriot Front for using chapter print money to purchase recreational drugs, joining the New England cell of the Base, and attempting to inculcate neo-Nazis in NW7 activities. Hood posted a diatribe to the “Massachusetts Front” Twitter account on the topic, which was ostensibly his PF propaganda tracker. Rousseau would respond to Hood’s post in PF internal channels. On November 23rd, Hood and a cadre of associates entered Budzyna’s home in Auburn MA, and assaulted Spellman-Oldenquist. Before the assault occurred, Brackett purportedly contacted Budzyna in order to set up a confrontation between Hood and Spellman-Oldenquist, motivated by Spellman-Oldenquist’s verbal disparagement of Hood over internal PF channels. Budzyna assented, on the terms Brackett and Hood not damage his home. That night in Budzyna’s home, Budzyna, Spellman-Oldenquist, Primevara, and supposedly other members of Patriot Front were preparing for a “flower-laying” event at a historical site for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday; internal chats suggest Plymouth Rock or one of multiple mausoleums in Springfield MA. Hood was accompanied by his girlfriend at the time Alison Hastings, Brackett, and Anthony Petruccelli. Hood’s girlfriend recorded the assault as Hood, Brackett, and Petruccelli took turns assaulting Spellman-Oldenquist. Primevara did not intercede on account of Brackett’s open display of a knife; neither did other members of Patriot Front present, likely for the same reason. Budzyna fled to an upper floor, and did not witness the bulk of the assault. After Hood and his cadre left, Primevara drove Spellman-Oldenquist to St. Vincent’s Hospital. A police report was filed concerning the incident that included an eyewitness account from Primevara (submitted on the 28th). When questioned by police, Spellman-Oldenquist and Primevara denied knowing why the assault occurred, and they did not mention the additional Patriot Front members present. Subsequently, Hood and Petruccelli were both subject to charges of assault. Hood responded to being served by reaching out to antifascist researcher “Antifash Gordon” with an implied offer: Hood would disclose the identities of well over 20 fascists in New England if “Gordon” would incite a harassment campaign against Spellman-Oldenquist, Primevara, and potentially other local members of Patriot Front in an attempt to get the charges dropped. “Gordon” refused, and instead released transcripts of the conversation to social media. Hood denied both the accusations of print fund theft from Patriot Front and the attempted mass doxxing revealed by “Gordon’s” disclosure as slanderous. Charges against Hood and Petruccelli would later be dismissed. [‡] [♣] [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

2020

On January 21st, Bogosh was arrested for two counts of vandalism, as well as cited for public marijuana consumption, while stickering for Patriot Front in Brookline MA. During his arrest, Bogosh admitted to police to being responsible for the stickering. [1]

On January 30th, antifascist researcher “Green Monster Antifa” released identifying documentation on Patriot Front member Noah Bogosh. [1]

Sometime during June, a judge ruled that police did not have reasonable suspicion to search members of Patriot Front during their propaganda campaign in February ‘19. The cases against Hood, Larson, and Wolf were dismissed. [1]

On August 17th, Harwood was charged for tagging in Yarmouth MA. [♣]

2021

On April 24th, Gilroy and Zachary Pickering stickered locations in Bristol RI, including the Rogers Free Library and a mail box outside the local post office. This, combined with a previous tagging event on April 13th in Warren RI, led to an investigation into both that led to their arrests and identification. [1] [2]

On June 27th, Milaszewski and two other members of Patriot Front stickered cars during the Black & Brown Outdoor Market of Summer ‘21, in Haverhill MA. An eyewitness described the other two members as (1) “a white male with a long, red beard, little to no hair, wearing khaki shorts and a black t-shirt with a white ‘black sun’ symbol on the front,” and (2) “a white male approximately same height or a little taller as the first male, with blond/lighter colored short hair.” [Speculative: (1) is likely to be Morelli. (2) is likely to be Beilman. The physical descriptions and height disparity line up well, and this was less than a month before their arrests in Salem MA. This indicates that Morelli is crazier than people thought.] The eyewitness also reported that the bearded man brandished a handgun toward them when they followed too closely. A further review of surveillance footage places the two unidentified members arriving and leaving in “a silver/gray older model Honda four door sedan” with MA plates. Earlier in the morning of the same day, during an unrelated medical incident, Milaszewski’s father was discovered with a number of stickers and propaganda pamphlets for the Creativity Movement in his possession. These items were identical to ones placed on a nearby church on the 21st. When questioned by local police, Milaszewski’s father immediately IDed his own son as the one who stickered the church. Later, in early July, two other parties would submit tips suggesting Milaszewski took part in the events of the 27th. [♣] [1] [2] [3] [4]

On July 5th, Spellman-Oldenquist was arrested for vandalizing Fredonian Park in Shirley MA. [♠] [1]

On July 10th, Beilman and Morelli were arrested for defacing a wall near the Bridge Street train station, in Salem MA. Their bags contained cans of spraypaint and stencils. Antifascist researcher “Garfield but Antifascist” posted about the arrests on the 11th. They were found “not guilty” by their presiding judge in January ’23. [1] [2] [3]

On July 19th, Haverhill PD executed a search warrant upon Milaszewski’s apartment, with the assistance of FBI investigators under the purview of the JTTF. Milaszewski was found possessing propaganda materials for Patriot Front and the Creativity Movement, a money order receipt with Thomas Rousseau’s signature on it, and articles of clothing consistent with the ones he was wearing on June 27th. During the search, Milaszewski made several self-incriminating statements to police. Milaszewski was afterward arrested by Haverhill PD on four separate counts, including assault w/a dangerous weapon for the brandishing committed by the bearded PF member on June 27th. These charges were later dismissed on the recommendation of the local probation department. [♣] [1]

On July 24th, Harwood, Beilman, and the elder Hayden attended the fifth party meeting of the National Justice Party, alongside Thomas Rousseau and a number of other Patriot Front members. The NJP is a project of several known, high-visibility white supremacists and neo-Nazis. Patriot Front’s own attendance role indicated that Catey Crain (now Catey Hayden) joined her husband Mark in attending. [1] [2]

On October 17th, Harwood, Beilman, Spellman-Oldenquist, the Haydens, Smaller, Trahan, Munafo, Cerce, and roughly 3 other members of Patriot Front met at Draper Fields in Hopedale MA to train and spar. The leaked footage of this event is extensive, and will require its own event dossier. [µ] [1]

On October 23rd through the 24th, Harwood, Beilman, the elder Hayden, Smaller, Munafo, Trahan, Cerce, and another members of Patriot Front planned to camp out and spar at Purgatory Chasm in Sutton MA. The second day also saw distribution of propaganda, with the members splitting into two groups. Beilman, Smaller, Cerce, and “Norman MA” planned to spray graffiti at Rutland Prison Camp and banner-drop in Springfield. Harwood, Hayden, Munafo, and Trahan planned to spray graffiti at the Clinton Train Tunnel and banner-drop in Worcester. [1]

On October 31st, Beilman, Spellman-Oldenquist, Smaller, and another member of Patriot Front planned to drop banners in Newton and Waltham MA, poster a location in Waltham, and then proceed to either Griggs Park or Coolidge Park for sparring. [1] [µ]

On November 7th, Spellman-Oldenquist, the younger Hayden, Trahan, and two other members of Patriot Front planned to drop two banners in Needham MA (with a fallback location in Newton MA should one Needham location not be feasible for a drop), and sticker two locations in Framingham MA that included Framingham State University. [1] [µ]

On November 14th, Harwood, Beilman, both elder and younger Hayden, Smaller, Spellman-Oldenquist, Trahan, another member of Patriot Front, and possibly Primevara planned a two-group propaganda distribution activity. Beilman, the elder Hayden, Smaller, Primevara, and “Norman MA” would proceed to a banner drop location in Boston MA, then a stickering location in Cambridge MA. Harwood, the younger Hayden, Spellman-Oldenquist, and Trahan would proceed to a banner drop location elsewhere in Boston, and third location in Boston for a stickering. This is possibly the first event that Harwood acted as Network Quartermaster for NW7. [1]

On November 28th, Harwood, Beilman, Spellman-Oldenquist, the younger Hayden, Smaller, and two other members of Patriot Front planned a two-group propaganda distribution activity. The first group would drop banners in Sutton and Oxford MA. The second group would drop banners in Bellingham and Sharon MA. [1]

On December 3rd, members of Network VII would prepare a caravan in preparation for the Washington DC march the next day. Beilman was to transport Spellman-Oldenquist, the younger Hayden, and Smaller in a minivan. The elder Hayden was to transport Cerce and “Peter CT” in his RAV4. Munafo was to transport Harwood and Trahan in his “gear truck.” [1]

On December 4th, Patriot Front marched on Washington DC. Amongst them was a contingent of members from Network VII, led by Harwood, which the documentation from the previous day indicated would include Spellman-Oldenquist, the Haydens, Smaller, Trahan, Munafo, Cerce, and “Peter CT.” While Beilman would travel with the bulk of NW7 down to DC, he was slated to be on a “screen team” separate from NW7. The leaked Rocketchat logs indicate at the very least that Spellman-Oldenquist, the Haydens, and Trahan were verifiably present. Purportedly, antifascists ascertained where Patriot Front was staging their vehicles and were unkind to their paintjobs. Among the vehicles at the staging area was a Honda Odyssey with CT plates, which is registered to Beilman. The elder Hayden reported having his tire popped in conversation with Beilman. On December 9th, Smaller committed a propaganda campaign on the Framingham State University campus. A series of tips from the public and federal law enforcement led FSU police to ID Smaller. FSU PD named Beilman and Harwood as conspirators based on Unicorn Riot’s leaked RocketChat logs (which violated the terms of Beilman’s pretrial release for his arrest in Salem earlier in the year). The three have since been charged and arraigned in Framingham District Court; the trial is ongoing. [♣] [1] [2]

On December 12th, Harwood, Beilman, Smaller, Primevara, the younger Hayden, Trahan, and another member of Patriot Front defaced a Black Lives Matter mural in Brockton MA. Later that day, Harwood, Beilman, the Haydens, Spellman-Oldenquist, Munafo, and another member of Patriot Front planned to meet in Draper Fields in Hopedale MA to spar and plan more propaganda distribution activities. Beilman, Spellman-Oldenquist, and the elder Hayden would banner-drop over two Storrow Drive footbridges in Boston before proceeding to Worcester to put up posters. Harwood, Munafo, the younger Hayden, and Trahan would banner-drop on two pedestrian footbridges over I-95 and I-93 in Boston before proceeding to the Quincy Quarries to graffitize with stencils. 2022

On January 21st, Patriot Front marched on Washington DC, as a demonstration during the March for Life. A member of Network VII (possibly Spellman-Oldenquist or Roy, given the patch and the choice of eyewear) was photographed guarding Rousseau. [1]

On January 28th, antifascist researcher “New York City Antifa” released an alert concerning the wedding of Kyle Morelli and Alyssa Garrity. Leaked Rocketchat logs indicated that members Harwood, Roy, Kieran Morris, Paul Gancarz, Graham Jones Whitson, Daniel Turetchi, and Cameron Pruitt were interested in attending. [1]

On February 16th, Beilman was charged in Stoughton District Court, for stickering a utility box in Canton MA that he purportedly was arrested for in December of the previous year. The police report mentions another postering conducted in Norwood MA not long beforehand, which includes a brief account of Beilman’s Honda Odyssey pulling up to a gas station, two members exiting to stick a poster on a utility box, then leaving. [♣] [♠] [1]

On March 8th, antifascist researcher “Garfield but Anti-Fascist” released identifying documentation on PF Network VII quartermaster Brian Harwood. [1] [2]

On April 22nd, Budzyna was arrested for his 2019 arsons by Auburn Police. The trial is still in progress. [1]

On June 13th, a member of the Nationalist Social Club (presumably Chris Hood) published a diatribe about interacting with Patriot Front via a dedicated Telegram channel. (See the entry under “November 28th, 2019” for more detailed information.) In this diatribe, he would namelessly identify Spellman-Oldenquist as “Marshall MA” of Patriot Front, and Primevara as another member of Patriot Front. A log of the channel would be circulated by antifascist researcher “FashAlert MA” on August 19th, and would lead to the identifications of three Patriot Front members of various levels of standing by antifascist researcher “By Way of Plymouth:” David Spellman-Oldenquist and Tyler Primevara on September 2nd ’22, and Robert Budzyna on January 13th ’23. [1] [2] [3]

On June 28th, antifascist researcher “Waltham’s Night Watch” identified Matt Smaller as “Jim MA” in Rocketchat leaks released by Unicorn Riot. [1]

On July 2nd, roughly 70 members of Patriot Front held a flash rally and march in Boston MA. During the march, several members assaulted local performer Charles Murrell III. Murrell, carrying a basket in one arm and holding his phone in the other hand, was assaulted by several members with shields, before the assault was broken up by law enforcement. Patriot Front would later release video of their side of the assault; local documentarian-activists & performance artists Rod Webber and Lauren Pespisa identified two of the officers as BPD Detective Andrew Creed and FBI Agent Steven Kimball, whom they recognized from previous encounters. After the march, several members disembarked at Oak Grove station; several members had staged their cars nearby, just over the Malden town line into Melrose. Local software developer James Meickle recorded the procession of members, including a moment where a member of Patriot Front slapped the phone out of Meickle’s hand. Webber & Pespisa allegedly identified Chris Hood as the driver of the vehicle that transported Thomas Rousseau away from Oak Grove. While Webber’s footage of the identification was not visually conclusive of Hood’s presence, Webber seems to have gotten NSC member Leo Cullinan to confirm that Hood was present three weeks later. According to plates recorded by Webber, Meickle, and others, Jake Hayden may have been present. Also identified were members Colton Brown, Paul Gancarz, Kieran Morris, Benjamin Whitted, Riley Johnson, and Dalton Woodward. Later that day, northbound on I-93 near Montvale Ave in Stoneham MA, the U-Haul carrying Patriot Front’s shields and equipment was stopped by MA state police, and ticketed for improper plates. In the truck were members Colton Brown of Ravensdale WA, Garret J. Garland of Freeburg IL, and Keith M. Ray of Williamsport PA (a previously unidentified member). Brown was the recipient of the driving citation, and the U-Haul was towed. Harwood would later be revealed as the local member who rented the truck. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

On July 24th, antifascist researcher “Waltham Night’s Watch” released identifying documentation on Patriot Front member Salvatore Munafo. [1]

On August 25th, Harwood was arrested for tagging Auburn High School. [♣]

2023

On January 4th, after waiving their right to a jury trial in Salem District Court, Beilman and Morelli were found “not guilty” of their vandalization charges in July ’21. The presiding judge found that the arresting officers had not met its burden of proof in showing that Beilman and Morelli had in fact tagged the bridge. In a final indignity against local law enforcement, Beilman and Morelli requested that their property, including the stencils. be returned from evidence into their possession; the judge allowed it. [♣] [1]

On January 21st, antifascist researcher “By Way of Plymouth” released identifying documentation on Robert Budzyna, a former member of Patriot Front, a possible member of the Base, and likely a current member of NSC. [1] [2]

On April 2nd, the Patriot Front Telegram channel released photos of NW7 members spray-painting graffiti in Templeton MA. This seems to correspond with the first post of the revived Bay State Active Club Telegram channel from March 21st, the photos of which feature the same people in the same outfits, spraying the same graffiti in the same location. Harwood and Schlegel were present. [Speculative: Hayden was also likely present, possibly as the one taking photos.] [∗]

On April 29th, roughly a dozen members of Patriot Front held a standout across from the Boston Marriott in Copley, which was hosting the Satanic Temple’s SatanCon for the weekend. They would be monitored at various points by several antifascists, including tracked by Rod Webber and Lauren Pespisa, confronted by Antuan Castro Del Rio, and copiously photographed by antifascist researcher “Claud Southend.” After the standout, members were photographed loading into one car with RI plates, and another that is known to be owned by the elder Hayden. In an ID thread on the same day, antifascist researcher “New York City Antifa” named members Kieran Morris of Network 1 and Paul Gancarz of Network 9 as present. In a subsequent ID thread the next day, antifascist researcher “By Way of Plymouth” named Beilman, Harwood, the Haydens, Roy (after having erroneously identified him as Spellman-Oldenquist), Cerce, and Primevara as present. While Primevara was also protesting SatanCon, it should be noted that he was not with Patriot Front. Rather he was possibly in the company of members of the Pine Tree Party, a group of New England separatists with eco-fascist overtones founded by Michael Mahoney of NC aka “Mike Ma.” “By Way of Plymouth” also identified Schlegel as present, with the Pine Tree Party instead of Patriot Front, while identifying Schlegel and outlining his memberships to various fascist groups the next year. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]

On May 25th, Schlegel posted to a local buy/sell group on Facebook. The item he was looking to sell was an overshell jacket frequently worn by members of Patriot Front. [Speculative: This is likely indicative of the duration of Schegel’s tenure with Patriot Front; seems like he wasn’t a member for long.] [1]

On July 16th, members of Patriot Front distributed water to flood survivors in Barre VT. [Speculative: There’s a good chance that they only donated to visibly white people. If they recorded footage of refusing to distribute to non-white Vermonters, it may have been intentionally shelved.]  [∗]

On August 8th, Thomas Rousseau and Patriot Front became subject to a federal civil rights lawsuit for their assault of Charles Murrell III during their march through Boston MA of July 2021. This story is developing! [1] [2]

On November 4th, members of Patriot Front joined the Men’s March to Abolish Abortion and Rally for Personhood, at the march’s destination of the Parkman Bandstand at Boston Common. Harwood, Beilman, Cerce, and Mark Hayden were present. [1] [2]

On January 15th, antifascist researcher “By Way of Plymouth” released a bulletin on New-England-local Active Clubs. Relevant to Network 7, the elder Hayden was established as the likely founder of the Bay State Active Club, and Munafo, Harwood, and Beilman as members. [1]

On January 19th, members of Patriot Front joined the anti-abortion March For Life in Washington DC. Harwood and the elder Hayden were present, at various times marching and handing out Patriot Front propaganda to passers-by. They were heckled for their trouble. [1]

Clusters of activity

The Rocketchat logs offer a snapshot of 121 NW7 promat activities between November 13th to December 16th, 2021. It seems, for the most part, that members would promat locations within a 40-minutes’ drive from their homes.

Harwood larglely traveled in an area that included Norfolk, Bristol, and Plymouth counties. He was known to live in Barnstable County at the time. If the thought that PF members are attempting to promat every municipality in their state of operation is true, Harwood may have expended all available municipalities in Barnstable County by this point. Harwood was also willing to travel to CT to flyer with Beilman, and to NH & ME to flyer with Trahan. His pattern of activity has likely shifted considerably, given his move to Spencer MA since this time.

Beilman, with 20 activities, is almost the busiest member of NW7. He is also the one willing to travel the furthest and cross state lines the most, though he only seems to do it when other members will be involved in promat activities in those regions save a single exception in Framingham MA. A good half of his activities are group ones. Nearly all of his activities in CT are done alone, save an event in New Haven with the elder Hayden and another in Greenwich with Spellman-Oldenquist and Smaller directly after the disastrous DC march.

Spellman-Oldenquist largely traveled within Worcester County, save excursions to Boston MA and Greenwich CT.

Primevara’s few activities were mostly centered to a tight radius straddling Worcester & Middlesex counties, though he did also travel to upstate NY. This may have been an action of opportunity consistent with personal travel plans. He appeared to have rejoined around this time, so he may have travelled further out as he flyered more locations.

Roy, to no surprise, appeared to be the only member flyering areas in Vermont. He also does not leave the region to join other promatting events during this stretch of time, though we do know from multiple accounts that he does join larger events out-of-state, including the Bunker Hill protest.

Smaller was willing to travel further than most for his activities, having a footprint that includes most of eastern MA. His travel radius includes going 20 minutes northwest and going over an hour southeast from his home in Maynard MA.

Munafo flyered almost exclusively in Plymouth County, save a trip up to Boston with other members.

The younger Hayden travelled through Norfolk, Plymouth, and Bristol counties. Starting from Brockton, he’s gone 30 miles west and 20 miles east.

The elder Hayden seemed to travel largely in Worcester County and western parts of Middlesex County. His radius of activity was more centered in Worcester MA than Spencer MA, where he lives. He was also willing to travel for several activities with other members. From November 21st to 22nd, he traveled to York ME & Dover NH with Harwood and Beilman to flyer with Trahan. On November 28th, he traveled to Hopedale MA with Smaller. On December 11th, he traveled to New Haven CT to flyer with Beilman, and travelled to Manchester CT (possibly by himself, while traveling home to Spencer MA from New Haven). On December 13th, he traveled to Boston & Shrewsbury MA to flyer with Beilman and Spellman-Oldenquist. The Torch leaks indicated he once traveled up to Saco ME to shoot promat photos with a local member.

Trahan was the busiest member of NW7, with 21 activities largely centered in a region around Portsmouth NH and Kittery ME.

Cerce was the only member of NW7 who conducted promat activities in RI during this stretch. The only times he promatted with others was an event in Bellingham & Sharon MA on November 28th, with Harwood, the younger Hayden, and Trahan.

“Peter CT” is a special case, as he only reported attending two events, both of which were group activities in Boston and Sutton MA. This likely stems from some kind of special leeway given to him as NW7’s videographer.

Online presence

There are a handful of social media accounts for Patriot Front as a whole, though nothing specifically for Network VII.

Patriot Front as a whole does most of its organizing in private online spaces. It began with Discord servers before they began utilizing Rocketchat; leaks from antifascists have plagued every dedicated organizing space they’ve ever used. On that note:
